Projektet indeholder to karréer i varierende højde op til 17 etager.

NICOLINE KOCH BRONZE SCULPTURE
A 2.20 meter high bronze sculpture created by the danish artist Liné Ringtved Thordarson, Sculptor, Bachelor of Fine Art, specialized in sculpture, was placed in the street at Nicolinehus, Aarhus Ø, in the summer of 2022.
Nicoline Koch is also made in a miniature model, 37 cm. high, in various patinations (colours) which can be purchased for DKK 19,000. It is also possible to acquire the sculpture in other sizes.
Please contact Liné on mobile 29 66 47 09 or on e-mail line.thor@hotmail.com for further information.
The sculpture, named ‘Nicoline’, was created after Nicoline Koch, who in her time took over the private Koch’s School, which today has its home in nearby Trøjborg. Nicoline Koch, who took over the school more than 100 years ago, in 1916, and led it until her death in 1932, was a tall, stately lady with a dynamic and strong force for a woman of that time.
‘It is the strong personality that I have tried to recreate in her attitude in the sculpture and the time is expressed through her clothing. I want in my sculptures that you can feel the person who is transformed into form, because each sculpture has its own story of life and man. My sculptures are emotions expressed in form. It is important to me that Nicoline Koch should just stand and rest in herself and radiate the strength, but also the calmness that I sense in her.’
Nicoline is cast in Italy by Italian Adolfo Agolini, owner of the foundry Mariani, and is one of the best casters in the world.
The foundry, located in the small Italian town, Pietrasanta. Pietrasanta is famous for its production of sculptures. The foundry has been handed down through several generations and guarantees perfect craftsmanship. The city has for many years been a mecca for artists and many other Danish sculptors, including Prince Henrik whom also have have made the trip to the Italian foundry.
‘It is a long and very long process to create a bronze sculpture, and there are many people involved in the various processes in the bronze casting itself. As I like to be involved in all the processes, it also resulted in two trips to the foundry in Italy’.
The 200 kg heavy bronze sculpture was commissioned by Martin Busk from Bricks A/S, who not only saw the artwork as a beautiful sculpture for the area, but a dedication to Aarhus.
‘I have admired Liné’s work for a long time, and so it was quite natural for me to choose a local artist,’ says Martin Busk.

ABOUT NICOLINE KOCH
Nicoline Koch was from an old priestly family. She was educated at N. Zahle’s private tutoring course. Nicoline traveled to Paris in the middle of the First World War to further her education in French. In 1916 she became Head Master at N. Koch’s school. In 1920, the first students took the middle school exam and in 1921 the real exam. The exam would give the young girls the opportunity to be employed.
As a school leader, Nicoline Koch had vision, overview and courage. In relation to the students, Nicoline Koch was an authoritative figure who emphasized old-fashioned virtues such as duty, precision and order. But she was also a lively and witty narrator who taught religion and history in the small classes and french in the elder classes.
On the outside, Nicoline Koch was a slender and stately lady with a strong gaze. She was a forward-looking and dynamic school leader. Her sudden death in 1932 left the school in a state of bewilderment and shock, like a “Castle without a Chief”. She had transformed the school and it is still one of Aarhus’ large, progressive private schools.
NICOLINEHUS – LIFE ON AARHUS ISLAND TO THE WHOLE CITY
Nicolinehus is the heart of Aarhus Ø, which with its pulse creates a close connection to the city centre, so that the area becomes an attractive offer for all citizens of Aarhus. In addition, Nicolinehus has the city’s best location right next to the old marina on one side and the harbor bath on the other.
Both architecturally and in terms of materials, Nicolinehus is a quality building that contains both housing for everyone and businesses. The entire ground floor of the “terracing” building structure opens up to the outside world with a market hall, cafés, lifestyle shops, restaurents and convenience stores. The same goes for Nicolinehus’ courtyards, which – inspired by the city centre’s old squares – become recreational breathing holes and green outdoor spaces.
Bricks A/S is the developer of Nicolinehus www.bricks.dk
Nicolinehus was designed by AART Architects, while the project’s green areas were designed by the landscape architects at Schønherr.
The project contains two blocks of varying heights up to 17 floors. Between the two squares is Nicoline Kochs Plads, a strait that creates a diagonal passage between the new harbor bath and the marina, and where the 2.20 meter high bronze sculpture of Nicoline Koch is located
Liné herself lives in Nicolinehus and has a studio at Sydhavnen in Kunstnerhuset, Kalkværksvej 11A, Aarhus C
